There is no shortage of star power when the Toronto International Film Festival is on. But when celebrity super-couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie arrived at the Gala TIFF premiere for “Moneyball,” you witnessed celebrity on a whole other level. The fans went crazy. BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN introduces “new” Darkness on the Edge of Town material to journalists at the Royal Theatre in Toronto – a few fans on College street then get the surprise of their life

The Toronto International Film Festival continued it’s tradition of not just attracting the biggest MOVIE stars in the world – but occasionally, a big MUSIC star or two. In the last few years, U2′s Bono and The Edge, Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, and The White Stripes have all popped up on TIFF red carpets in support of films in recents years.

This year, it was THE BOSS – Bruce Springsteen. After his Tuesday night Gala premiere, on the same day when Springsteen participated in a celebrity interview at the Bell Lightbox moderated by Ed Norton, The Boss had a much quieter Wednesday.

A select few journalists were invited to the Royal Theatre on College St. for an early afternoon listening session to unreleased material from the Darkness on the Edge of Town album recording sessions from the seventies. Springsteen was even in attendance at the Royal Theatre that day to introduce the “new” tracks and answer questions.

But it was after the exclusive listening session at the Royal that a few people on College street got the surprise of their lives when Bruce decided to stroll out of the theatre to grab some lunch.

Springsteen spent a few minutes posing for pictures with fans including one dude that got The Boss to pose on his motorcycle.

5 GREAT things to do around the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival – FOR FREE!

You don’t need the hottest party invite or Gala screening ticket to enjoy the buzz of the Toronto Film Festival. There are still plenty of downtown sites to take in the magic of TIFF and it doesn’t even have to cost you a dime. We can suggest these 5 great things to do around TIFF for FREE;

1. THE TIFF RED CARPET PREMIERES – The TIFF red carpet screenings still offer the best bang for your buck for getting up close and personal with a movie star. It’s rare a celebrity doesn’t interact with the crowd at their premiere. We’ve seen before some stars spend more time with the fans, then the media. Roy Thomson Hall Gala premieres have a large area where crowds gather. But warning – if you want a good spot on the fence, get their early. The Elgin Winter Theatre and Ryerson are also very fan friendly and good spots for seeing your favorite actors up close. Tip: The stars exiting the Elgin theatre out the back door can be an intimate vantage point.

2. YORKVILLE AVE. – Yes, some festival buzz is moving south to King st., but Yorkville avenue is still home to two of Toronto’s most swanky TIFF hotels – The Four Seasons and The Hazelton. So Yorkville is always a bees hive of activity come TIFF time – especially opening weekend. Grab a coffee and take a seat outside on the Starbucks patio for some fun people watching.

3. THE PARTIES – The Hello Canada magazine party, the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew, In Style Party. You may not get into these events – but many have red carpets outside and sometimes hundreds of fans will gather in the streets.

4. ESSENTIAL CINEMA MUSEUM and FILM SCREENINGS – at the TIFF Bell Lightbox opening daily September 12th the exhibit will feature movie props, costumes, and posters from some of most popular movies ever. TIP: They’ll also be free screenings of past great TIFF films.

5. TIFF BLOCK PARTY – on Sunday, September 12th. Everybody is invited to one of TIFF’s coolest parties this year. The opening of the BELL Lightbox on Sunday afternoon. Free food and entertaiment including the headlining of a major Canadian act that TIFF is keeping secret for now (but we think is Nelly Furtado.)

The Toronto Film Festival Galas at Roy Thomson Hall was a great place for TIFF celebrity sightings

(festivalinsider.ca) If there was one change that proved popular this TIFF – it was the new red carpet set-up at Toronto’s Roy Thomson Hall. In years previous, The red carpet was on one side of the tight Simcoe St. and fans were stuck waiting on the OTHER side of the street. For 2009, the red carpet Cadillac drop-off of TIFF guests was brought into a park on the east side of the theatre, allowing the fans wanting a glimpse of their favorite TIFF stars a much closer look, and an excellent chance for a photo or autograph.

(festivalinsider.ca) Matt Damon has come to the Toronto International Film Festival this year in support of Steven Soderbergh’s THE INFORMANT. After their Elgin red carpet premiere, Matt Damon and cast headed over to Sassafraz restaurant in the heart of Yorkville. Michael Douglas would later stop by to join the party. It didn’t take long for word to spread that A-list stars were in the building as hundreds lined the streets for a glimpse.
