09.11.08 — DAY 8: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN FESTIVAL, CANADA?
IN STYLE & OUT OF THIS WORLD STAR SIGHTINGS
Held each year at The Windsor Arms, The In Style party attracted the collective bright star power of Mark Ruffalo, Ethan Hawke, Tim Robbins, Paris Hilton, Rachel Weisz, Adrien Brody, Sir Ben Kingsley, Kevin Zegers, and Jim Sturgess. When The Cadillac Insider asked Sir Kingsley how much sleep the Oscar winner was getting each night, he laughed, “Who needs sleep! I can sleep when I’m dead!” In good spirits, Hawke didn’t seem upset over the day’s hottest rumour made the rounds suggesting his ex-wife, Uma Thurman was pregnant. The next day Thurman’s rep denied the film goddess was preggers. Whew — I dodged a bullet there, peeps!
MOURNING BERNIE MAC INDEFINITELY
—Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen director Steven Soderbergh informed the press yesterday that there won’t be a fourteenth film in honour of Bernie Mac, who recently passed away. “I was done anyway [with the movie franchise], but [Mac’s] death was tragic.” Mac died on August 9 at a Chicago hospital from an infection while he was being treated for pneumonia. Soderbergh, however, did have reason to celebrate yesterday: his film Che, starring Benicio Del Toro, was purchased by IFC Films (and that’s the reason this festival exists in a nutshell, folks). Hollywood insiders admitted they were worried about the movie’s 262-minute run-time, which was filmed in two parts. “It’s not a date film,” quipped The LA Time’s Tom O’Neil. Del Toro, who also produced the film, was a “pain in the ass,” joked Soderbergh. Not that there is anything wrong with that. “I’m used to working the George Clooney after all,” he pointed out. Yeah, we feel your pain.
Later, Hilton, along with Scott Speedman and Sophia Bush, partied until the early morning at the IT Lounge upstairs later. My spies report Hilton dined at Bistro 990 on Tuesday night, while Edward Norton and Speedman broke bread at Morton’s.
Look who’s in town: the original party girl, Pamela Anderson ran into Jeff Goldblum at the Toronto Airport yesterday. And yes, that was Gil Bellows at the Drake Hotel for a lively Manitoba Film party.
ANISTON’S NEW MAN?
eTalk Daily’s celebrated star blogger Lainey Lui put super-gorgeous model Matt Felker on the hot seat when she asked him if he and Jennifer Aniston were still hooking up. Felker admitted they did indeed date at one point, but are “just friends” now. Aniston and Felker were in town at the same time this week, and even had dinner — “but it was business related.” Apparently, Aniston is giving Felker pointers on how to traverse from the model world into the acting business. Good luck with that.
LINDSAY LOHAN RETURNS TO TORONTO
Ultra Nightclub hosts a Lindsay Lohan-Samantha Robson party tomorrow night. The high-profile couple was last seen making out like crazy in Toronto last Friday night at eTalk Daily’s Fesitval party at the Much Music Building. Recent rumours suggest the couple are thinking of adopting a baby, and/or may be engaged, so be on the look out Torontonians for anything resembling a baby carriage or engagement ring this weekend.
